Bad guys take advantage of the apparent helplessness of their victims. Poor situational awareness in the wrong location at the right time will get you KILLED. Walking around with your head down texting on your phone and your ear plugs in tells the world you're a VICTIM in-waiting. It advertises, "HERE I AM, ATTACK ME!".
Learning how to shoot using only your dominate hand gives you more tools in the toolbox to use to stay alive. It also lets you carry a purse or holiday gift bags in your "weak hand". Or grab a toddler (or a full-size adult rescue manikin from your Fire Dept.) out of harm's way while retreating as you engage the threat. An important, potentially life-saving drill that I've taught to fellow I.D.P.A. competitors and friends with intermediate skill level in firearms handling. It's called a HAND gun, not a HANDS gun for a reason, and when the SHTF, it's nice to know how & when to employ this technique.
Enter 3-Gunner & A Girl and A Gun Facilitator Ronnie Siegel Mark, chapter leader of New Jersey's only A Girl And A Gun Women's Shooting League. Mark and her ladies were invited to hold a live-fire training exercise and a holiday party at the Union Hill Gun Club in Monroe Twp., NJ last Wednesday evening. (Union Hill GC is where CNJFO Life Member Rocco LaRocca's ROC Training is based, and Rocco was there to lend a hand). Showing growth and improvement in the basics since they last shot, and with their assigned "homework" of dry-fire practice in a safe location with an empty gun completed, Mark then introduced "strong hand ONLY" shooting technique to everyone in attendance.
"I was EXTREMELY proud of my ladies as they watched & listened intently; and executed this skill with great form and success!"---Ronnie Sielgel Mark
A little holiday party followed in the UHGC members lounge as the group, from all walks of life, chatted and laughed with their hosts!
"It was a super awesome!"---Ronnie Siegel Mark
The Coalition of New Jersey Firearm Owners is proud to recognize this commitment to women's shooting and hopes to interview some of these remarkable women soon. Mark took one of the league members under her wing, and the pair recently shot a static steel match in nearby Guthsville, PA. To learn more about this dynamic group, please visit:
