NEW GUN OWNERS HAVE THE "1,000 YARD STARE"!
NJ's 100K 1ST TIMERS..A SALESMAN'S PERSPECTIVE!

The climate today has brought out a whole new gun buyer. I wish more people could have gotten educated sooner on the Second Amendment and the outlandish laws that we have here. Those who know me, know I take this very seriously. It took a pandemic and civil unrest for all these closeted gun buyers to show themselves. I can see it in their faces; the unrest of buying a firearm. let alone the handling of one, or the realization of shooting one.
"As we try to do our best as gun salesmen to educate first-time gun buyers in the 5 or 10 minutes we have at the counter, we NJ Pink Card holders (those background-checked to sell guns from behind the gun store counters of NJ) often get the "1,000 Yard Stare". ---Hugh Kearney, Pink Card Holder
We try to fit them with a firearm that works FOR THEM. It is obviously painful that they don't get it. But, it is their right to purchase. I always tell them, "whatever you spend on that firearm, spend double on training". Now as a trainer, I know most people get educated to some extent, but they think it's a one time deal. When you get to explain moving and shooting, rhythm, and defensive shooting, you get the blank stare AGAIN. But a least some, if not most get the importance of education. And I don't care where they go, just get educated.
Another important fact; don't listen to that boyfriend, girlfriend, or family member who shoots. Because they'll be all about the biggest & baddest firearm to own. Trouble is if it doesn't fit, it wont work (I got stories)! Another thing this pandemic & unrest has produced is the lack of firearms and ammo (that's another whole issue). If I had more time to write I would but work gets in the way. Everyone be safe out there and get educated, and get TRAINED!
EDITOR's NOTE:
CNJFO supporter Hugh Kearney is a New Jersey firearms salesperson. Those in the industry refer to these folks as "Pink Card Holders" because their license to sell retail firearms is printed on a pink card and displayed at the FFL's they work at. Kearney is a certified firearms trainer, and has an extensive shooting background. He enjoys all things tactical, USPSA "running & gunning" matches, and is a member at Monmouth Co. Rifle & Pistol Club. Hugh has decades of experience on all three popular platforms. We hope you enjoy his writing "from-the-heart" as much as we did editing it.
