If you waited to apply for a gun permit (new applicant) or waited to use a hand gun permit to purchase until yesterday or today, or you have a blank hand gun permit you haven't used yet, or have a firearm on layaway or consignment, you're S.O.L.! The New Jersey State Police NICS processing portal is SHUT DOWN UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE! Without the portal, gun dealers in NJ can't get a background check, since there's no legal way around the backlogged, overworked, and now CLOSED NICS Unit!
